Favorite Releases of 2010

By in music

It’s that time again! I didn’t have much of a chance to listen to as much music as I wanted too this year, but there were some solid releases. I’m sure if I did have time, this list would be very different. Enough bullshittin’ around, here is my top 20 records of the year.

Lights Tour Poster: The Process

By in design, music, process

For AP 2D Design in high school, I dedicated half of my portfolio on the exploration of light painting. Light painting consists of long shutter speeds on the camera and literally just painting with light. It’s really fun and interesting to see the outcome of the picture. Not one image is the same. I used different types of techniques for lights, such as pen light, cell phone lights, fireworks, and even tying a light to a string and swinging it around.

A requirement for portfolio 1 at the Art Institute is to have a piece that showcases your experiment with type. I didn’t want to build a face with typography which a lot of students were doing for their portfolios. I decided to get back in the grind of light painting and have fun with this project.

9 Visually Appealing Music Videos

By in design, inspiration, music

With in the field I’m studying in, I’ve always restricted myself to researching 2D images. But I found another medium to pull inspiration from, which are the forms of videos. Music has always been a second passion to design, and on my free time I like finding new bands to listen to. While filtering through new bands, I also filter through music videos. The standard music video consist of the artist singing to the camera, with some kind of cheesy love story line and a few live performance clips spliced in. But I’ve complied a list of 9 videos I find visually appealing and interesting. Check out my list under the cut.

Urban Outfitters’ Annual Report

By in design, process

For my Publication Design class, we had to choose a company to design a 28 page minimum mock annual report for. I chose Urban Outfitters because of a few factors. Their design aesthetics were something I admired and it’s very opened ended to the point where I didn’t have to really rely on certain themes. For example, if I chose Hot Topic, I would have to restrict myself to the alternative style. Black, chains, piercings, and cheesy graphic tees. My other choice was the U.S. Postal Service, but that was shot down because others believed it would of been boring to design. So here’s my final project, along with pictures and cover process, check it out under the cut.

Favorite Releases of 2009

By in music

A lot like other blogs, I’m going to post my top 10 personal favorites of 2009. If you look past through all the auto-tuned bullshit that’s currently on the radio (cash cash, ke$ha, etc.), you’ll find some appreciated (and under-appreciated) albums. It was quite easy narrowing it down since I had less time to listen to albums this year, but once I did I found some great albums with some sustainability. So let’s get to it! YEAH BRAH!

Crunk For Cancer II: The Process

By in design, process

Early in 2007 was when the first Crunk for Cancer was held, just shortly after my friend, Sam Marx, was diagnosed with cancer. His sister, Hannah Marx, who was living in our house at the time decided to throw a party to raise awareness. Since we are now current residents of the house, we felt like we had to do something for his 21st birthday and to celebrate his life.

I took it upon myself for a personal project. I decided to design a t-shirt to sell for the party and the proceeds would go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation which was a foundation that Sam was deeply devoted too.
